Dedicated 4G/LTE Wireless Network Design and Planning for First Responders

For first responders, having reliable communications during an emergency could mean the difference between saving lives or arriving too late, in the wrong place, or with the wrong equipment. To ensure reliable communications, Congress in 2012 created the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) as an independent authority within NTIA to provide emergency responders with the first nationwide, high-speed, broadband network dedicated to public safety. This is a massive undertaking, with $7 billion and 20 MHz of valuable radio spectrum dedicated to planning, designing, and building the network under the Department of Commerce and the National Telecommunications and Information Agency (NTIA).

Redhorse is providing technical program management and wireless subject matter expertise to the initiative, reviewing the designated states’ Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) Business Plans, Spectrum Management Lease Agreements (SMLA’s), RAN/Core network design and architecture, site selection and acquisition, and providing the office of the CTO with detailed evaluations and recommendations for the planned full life-cycle implementation.
