Developing sustainable environmental programs
- Environmental Management Systems: Designing environmental management systems for organizations ranging in size and diversity from a ski resort in Colorado to the Federal Government of Argentina
- Regulatory Compliance Strategies: Designing organization-wide and facility-specific environmental compliance strategies for energy companies, the oil and gas industry, the Department of Energy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Materiel Command, waste management companies, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
- Institutional Strengthening: Developing and implementing comprehensive technology transfer programs for government agencies in the Philippines, Indonesia, China, and Argentina that included training on topics such as waste minimization, compliance auditing, and environmental management systems
- Pollution Prevention and Sustainable Practices: Conducting waste minimization audits and developing waste reduction strategies for a broad spectrum of industries and operations, including metal finishing, vehicle maintenance, agriculture, hospitals, municipalities, and various Air Force and Navy installations
General Technical Assistance
The team has provided general environmental support to a diverse group of clients in the following areas:
- Comparative risk assessments: Developing and implementing prioritization methodologies and models for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's RCRA Corrective Action Program; the Philippines Pollution Reduction Initiative; and the U.S. Army Materiel Command’s Environmental Risk Management Program
- Compliance audits and inspections: Developing and implementing multi-media auditing protocols for industry and conducting multi-media compliance inspections for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and state agencies
- Waste stream determinations: Performing on-site waste studies and preparing waste determination position papers
- Data quality assurance/quality control and validation: Preparing quality assurance project plans for several Superfund site remedial investigations; conducting quality assurance audits of laboratories; and evaluating and validating data collected for environmental project decision-making
- Contaminated site cleanup: Supporting site characterization, developing remedial objectives, and evaluating cleanup options for Superfund and RCRA Corrective Action sites around the country
- Document preparation and reviews: Evaluating project plans and reports prepared by responsible parties using applicable guidance and procedures to ensure compliance with programmatic requirements and preparing various environmental documents - permit applications; site investigation reports; and plans required by environmental programs such as NEPA, RCRA, CAA, and CERCLA
- Expert witness support: Preparing and providing expert testimony - depositions, expert reports, and on-the-stand testimony; helping develop litigation strategies; and developing litigation support materials
Environmental Training and Meeting Facilitation
- Developing and delivering training programs: Developing and delivering hundreds of training programs to environmental professionals working at state and federal government agencies, private industry, and the consulting community on topics ranging from understanding environmental regulations to designing and implementing sustainable environmental management systems
- Facilitation: Providing small-group facilitation services, as well as leading multi-day workshops with more than 300 participants
