Biogas Cogeneration and Effluent Reuse at the Schofield Barracks Wastewater Treatment Plant

Redhorse is supporting development and implementation of a water reclamation project with the U.S. Army and the City and County of Honolulu for the U.S. Army Installation Management Command Pacific.  The project includes (1) capture and reuse of treated effluent from the wastewater treatment plant at Schofield Barracks to help meet water conservation goals at the base, and (2) collection of biogas from the wastewater treatment plant for use in a cogeneration system to produce on-site renewable energy.  Redhorse is providing engineering, environmental, energy, and economic consulting services for the project, including assessing the technical feasibility of water reuse and cogeneration, identifying environmental permit requirements and public safety issues, and analyzing the economic feasibility of the project.  The project requires extensive coordination between the military, the State of Hawaii, and the County and City of Honolulu.  Redhorse is interfacing with regulatory agencies, coordinating with project stakeholders, and participating in public meetings to address environmental impacts and planning alternatives.
