Federal Aviation Administration Control Tower and Support Buildings Energy Audits

Redhorse conducted detailed Level II energy audits of the Boise and Reno air traffic control towers and support buildings to identify low-cost operation and maintenance and capital cost equipment opportunities to achieve energy, water, and cost savings at the facilities.  Recommendations included HVAC controls, lighting occupancy sensors, photovoltaic systems, solar water heating, high-efficiency water fixtures, and low-flow toilets and urinals.  Redhorse used the Carrier HAP and eQUEST models to assess the energy and cost savings associated with HVAC and other building systems.  Energy savings of more than 280,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) were identified with simple paybacks of 1.4 to 4.6 years at each site.
