Communications Network Capabilities
Redhorse Corporation has assembled a team of communications and network experts who bring years of experience in the military communication domain. Our team has experience as system architects, system engineers, project managers, and technicians. We have designed, installed, and integrated sophisticated communications packages for a new generation of Navy ships; we have helped develop new concepts, defined requirements, engineered the solution, and have then implemented the solution in a real-world environment, using COTS and GOTS to implement minimum manning and comply with ABS standards. In addition, our team has extensive international interoperability experience, working with many NATO countries and on large NATO exercises.

People
Our team of key personnel averages more than 25 years of experience in all aspects of wired and wireless network design and engineering. We have a thorough understanding of the technical, organizational, and regulatory aspects of designing and deploying military-grade communications networks and have worked for all branches of the military, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Military Sealift Command, as well as NATO partners such as United Kingdom and other allies. Our staff includes individuals with degrees in electrical engineering, operations research, computer science, and mathematics and a wealth of first-hand operational and practical experience. In addition to their hands-on experience, the members of our team collectively hold the following industry certifications: FCC radiotelephone license, Cisco Certifications: CCNP, CCDP, CCSP, and CISSP.
Services
Redhorse understands the challenges our customers face in deploying new technologies and systems while maintaining legacy infrastructure equipment. We have first-hand experience working in an operational environment.
The following service offerings illustrate the depth and expertise that our team brings and demonstrates how we apply this expertise to military communications systems.
Concept Development
The Redhorse team has the background and experience to design a conceptual roadmap to assist our customers as they develop their concept of operations and derive their requirements. Our staff have experience in experimentation and prototype development. We have created novel solutions using advanced materials to provide readily available and affordable solutions to meet the warfighter’s needs.
Requirements Development
Developing requirements is at the heart of successful systems engineering in that all products and services must meet an essential operational need. To understand the specific requirement, the needs of the users, customers, and other interested stakeholders must be elicited, captured, and refined, from concept to delivery. Redhorse brings many years of experience in specifying requirements for high-value, technically complex systems. We use a wide range of tools to support requirements analysis and management. Examples are System Architect, DOORS, GMARC, RTM, CORE, RDD 100/RDD.COM, Cradle, IME, ISSE, and Rhapsody.
System Architecture Design
Redhorse defines and manages the design of system architectures, interfaces, and data communications using recognized architecture framework in accordance with customer requirements. Our staff have experience with DODAF, C4ISR AF, and TOGAF frameworks, with specific requirements flowing from the concept development.
System Design and Implementation
The design of individual systems flows from the concept and is defined by the requirements. The Redhorse team has experience in developing technologies to satisfy emerging requirements using a rapid prototyping methodology to deliver real capability to the customer that is affordable and available in a short time frame.
System Integration
Redhorse is a source of specialist technical and management expertise to drive acquisition and provide a balanced and coordinated approach to the system design. This broad but specialized service covers the whole life cycle of a system, from its initial formation, through integration, acceptance and in-service life, to disposal. We provide in-depth knowledge of technology, products, and processes necessary to ensure successful integration of complex, software intensive, technical solutions, while maintaining currency in technology. Redhorse conducts technical studies in each stage of the life cycle, keeping up-to-date with technological advances, supplementing capacity and expertise gaps in client organizations.
Human Factors Engineering
The discipline of applying what is known about human capabilities and limitations to the design of products, processes, systems, and work environments can be applied to the design of all systems with a human interface, including hardware and software. Its application to system design improves ease of use, system performance and reliability, and user satisfaction, while reducing operational errors, operator stress, training requirements, user fatigue, and product liability. Human factors engineering is unique, as it is the only discipline that relates humans to technology.
Redhorse focuses on how people interact with tasks, machines (or computers), and the environment with the consideration that humans have limitations and capabilities. Our human factors engineers evaluate “Human to Human,” “Human to Group,” ”Human to Organizational,” and ”Human to Machine (Computers)” interactions to better understand these interactions and to develop a framework for evaluation.
Human factors engineering activities include “usability assurance,” “determination of desired user profiles,” development of user documentation, and development of training programs.
Training
The Training Specialists at Redhorse offer a wide range of training services. We provide customers with independent expert advice that is consistent with industry best practice or bespoke to the customer’s own requirements. Redhorse provides key training services to support major programs throughout the defense, government and commercial training communities.
Our service begins with an Organizational Skills Audit to identify the skills required to meet the business need and those skills that currently exist within the organization. The result will assist in developing a Training Needs Analysis, which is the first step in closing performance or competency gaps. Our proven methodology is based on industry best practice and can be customized to customer requirements:
Information Assurance and Information Security
Redhorse understands the strength of an organization’s security program is only as strong as its weakest link. Our information security experts have adopted a holistic approach to system security, specializing in helping organizations strengthen the weakest links in their security program. We provide cost-effective solutions through automation and alignment of security programs. Redhorse specializes in delivering cost-effective innovative solutions in the area of information security, privacy, business continuity, disaster recovery, IT audit, regulatory compliance, and IT risk.
